CNAs were not required to have any type of formal training until 1987. Until then anyone could work as a CNA.
Also, if you are considering a career in the Health Care field becoming a CNA is a great way to get started. Some higher education nursing programs REQUIRE you to be a CNA before admitting you, and others give you admission points for being a CNA when you apply to their program
